The Mobile Public Library receives valuable assistance from the local community through the donation of time, energy and talent from volunteers. We frequently use volunteers for special projects and some more routine tasks that our staff is unable to break away from serving the public to do. If you have time on your hands and enjoy being around books, books, books, consider donating a few hours each week or month to your local library! Some of the work performed by our current volunteer force includes light clerical work, typing, cleaning and mending books, straightening and shelving books, notifying customers who have books on hold and unpacking books. You might even be interested in helping with our Children's Programs or lending an artistic hand to some of our displays and bulletin boards. To volunteer, you should fill out a Volunteer Application form which is available at each of our branches and at Main. This form can be turned in at any library location, or it can be mailed to the Mobile Public Library Development Office at the address listed on the top of the form. The Volunteer Coordinator at the Library will contact you for additional information and an interview will be scheduled with the manager. It is important that you state on the form restrictions as to location desired and hours of availability. We will try to place you in a job based upon your interests, skills, preferred worksite and time and our own special needs. For more information call (251) 208-7105 or click here to e-mail
